León CathedralSanta Maria de León cathedral, also called the house of the light or the Pulchra Leonina is a gothic cathedral. It is the most famous monument of León and it is the pride of León.

The current cathedral began to build in the year 1205 and it was finished in 1301. There is a legend about the construction of the cathedral which speaks about a mole that knocked down at night all the foundations which had been built during daylight. For that reason, the legend says that the builders had to raise the foundations several times until the mole was discovered.
The cathedral is famous for his stained glass windows in which different passages of the holy bible are represented. Those stained glass windows take up 1800 square meters on the walls. That joined to that the two towers are separated from the entrance portico (it is the only gothic cathedral which the entrance portico and the two towers are separated) does that inside the cathedral there is a major luminosity that in other Gothic cathedral.

La Catedral León me recuerda a la Catedral Nacional en Washington, DC en los Estados Unidos. Una diferencia es que la Catedral Nacional no es tan decorada como la Catedral León.
The León Cathedral reminds me of the National Cathedral in Washington DC, USA. One difference is that the National Cathedral is not as elaborate at the León Cathedral.

Wow, that cathedral is very impressive. One thing that's really cool about Spain and the rest of Europe is how old some of the buildings are. In the United States, our oldest buildings are from the 1600s, and there aren't many that are that old. So, for Americans, it's amazing to see buildings from the 1200s or 1300s, especially ones as magnificent as La Catedral León!
La Catedral León parece muy impresionante. La catedral más viejo en Boston es La Catedral Trinity, pero no es tan viejo y grande como ese catedral.
Tiene la misa todos los días?
Cuando estuve en Florencia, me di cuenta que las catedrales no pudieron tener las misas todas las dias porque había muchas turistas.
¡Estas iglesias son hermosas! ¿Están abiertas para que cualquier persona pueda entrar? Se que en México el catolicismo es muy popular. Casi toda la gente es cristiana. En los EEUU hay mucha gente que no cree en la religión. ¿La mayoría de la gente en España es católica? ¿La religión es importante en como se conduce la vida?
